I guess I'm not certain what you guys mean when you say Camtasia Studio output is reliant on ActiveX controls? Camtasia Studio exports to Flash (swf & flv), QuickTime, WMV, Real, and more? Flash export alone gives you a ubiquitous cross-platform delivery format, so what's the issue?

>>
relying on ActiveX controls will limit the ability to use the content on platforms other than Windows, will it not?
>>

Definite downer -- hadn't seen that and was figuring most of the output options would be more open format.

>>
What’s your complaint with the pan-and-zoom feature?
>>

Whoops -- meant to say 'indispensable' not 'indefensible' -- I'm such a dork!

It's cool that they're supporting some additional output formats, but relying on ActiveX controls will limit the ability to use the content on platforms other than Windows, will it not?

I use Camtasia, but I've been learning Adobe Captivate in the past several weeks and I'm finding it in many ways superior to Camtasia, especially in that it allows for the (relatively) easy creation of software simulations as well as demonstrations. I'm also impressed with the file sizes and simplicity of the (SWF-based) output: one SWF file + one really simple XHTML file.
